A PEEK INTO MY OFFICE

My husband and I are lucky enough to know a variety of talented photographers. We had a lifestyle shoot last weekend with Kerry of Kerry Jeanne Photography, who we met on a styled wedding shoot two summers ago. Kerry sent over this sneak peek of me in my office and I wanted to share here.

Those built-ins are making my life. I love having an open, clean space with easy access to my supplies.

The second desk behind me is my shipping station, which I'm slowing converting into a computer station as well. I like the idea of having more separation between my computer work and my hands-on design work.

I really love my desk. It's an old door just balanced on the top of two white Ikea trestles, and both the design and amount of available work space is awesome.

Still loving the fiberglass chair by Modernica.

Thank you Kerry for these photos! So fun to document this space.

HELLO FALL

IMG_0891 2.JPG

I am such a summer girl. Give me all the lake trips, light-til-10pm-nights, iced drinks and volleyball games. But I'm growing to love the fall. Especially in the Pacific Northwest, there's kind of nothing like it.

It's like I'm living in HD; every sense is heightened and aware. The colors look brighter, the smells and tastes are stronger. At the beginning of the season, the change is the most noticeable. My wardrobe shifts along with my coffee drink; from ripped shorts to thick sweaters, and from cold brew to piping hot. I turn on the oven, I bake, I light candles. I'm cozying up for the winter and settling in.

One nice benefit of all those things is I'm largely slowing down. If the summer is a sprint, then fall is a water station. Time to sit, be still, get refreshed. I naturally lean towards a fuller schedule, I love plans on plans; leaving one event early to arrive at the next event late thrills me. Summer weekends are booked to the brim, with showers and weddings and birthday parties galore, sometimes all three in one weekend. The fall is calmer, with more time, more space, and more breathing room to just be. I'm learning to embrace this pace of life over my hyper-speed of the last three months.

There have been so many wonderful signs of fall already: fires in the fireplace, dinners in the slow cooker, nights at home instead of out. I'm looking forward to a pumpkin patch trip and tailgating at our college football games. I'm suddenly pumped for fall and all that is has to offer, instead of morning the loss of summer. I think I needed this change of pace, more desperately than I even realized.

In this season, the slow life is the good life.

OFFICE UPDATE

Getting settled in a new home always takes more time than I think it will. We are slowly getting settled and making progress on the decor, but the one space that I'm crazy about already is my office. Having a gorgeous space to work in makes such a difference in a creative industry. I feel inspired, organized, and efficient; everything my home office dreams are made of.

I knew I wanted a big desk, giant enough for lots of projects happening all at once for my multitask-loving brain, and this DIY did the trick. I purchased the trestles secondhand, originally from Ikea, and my "desk" is an old door from my in-laws balanced on top. The best part is the door handle left a hole that is the perfect space for my phone and computer chargers to poke through as a hidden charging station.

I've had my eye on a fiberglass shell chair for a long time, and this one from Modernica is perfect. Each chair is made by hand in LA, and the design and construction are top notch. I have the white seat with maple zinc wire legs (seen here, white is fourth from left) and I love that it goes with everything, but you can choose from so many different seat and leg combinations. The assembly is easy and the chair is ready to go in minutes. It's a stunning work of art that doubles as useful seating that I will use everyday.
